eVisas, electronic visas and VOAs (visas on arrival) are official travel authorisations that can be applied for online without the need to visit an embassy or consulate. This system greatly simplifies the visa application process for many countries worldwide.
Nationals exempt from visa requirements for Nigeria:
Citizens of ECOWAS member states (Benin, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo) as well as citizens of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger with a passport or identity card bearing the ECOWAS logo are exempt from the entry visa requirement for Nigeria.
The exact requirements vary depending on the visa category. The usual documents include:
1- Valid passport: With a minimum validity of 6 months and blank pages.
2- Recent passport photo.
3- Flight booking or flight reservation.
4- Accommodation details (hotel reservation or host’s address).
5- Letter of invitation and certificate from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) if you are travelling on business.
6- Proof of financial means (e.g. bank statements for the last 30 to 180 days, depending on the category).
7- Additional documents for minors: birth certificate + parental consent form.
Types of regular visas for Nigeria
Nigeria offers various types of regular visas, depending on the purpose of your visit. These visas are issued by Nigerian embassies or consulates. These include:
Visa for religious tourism – F7D: For followers of a religion or belief who travel to Nigeria to participate in religious events or pilgrimages.
Visitor visa (multiple entry) – F6B: Issued on the basis of reciprocity to visitors who wish to visit Nigeria multiple times for private reasons and is usually valid for up to five years. Each visit can last up to 180 days.
Cleric Visa – F7B: Visa for religious representatives traveling to Nigeria to participate in or conduct religious services, seminars, or conferences.
Business Visa (Multiple Entry for Executives) – F4C: Purpose: A multiple-entry visa granted to business executives with frequent travel and investments in Nigeria. Requirements: Foreign executives with proven investments of at least US$250,000 in Nigeria.
Journalist Visa – F7A: This visa allows journalists or media professionals to conduct official reporting or media coverage in Nigeria.
Transit without a visa – F3A: Issued exclusively to travelers who are transiting through Nigerian airports within 48 hours without leaving the terminal.
Visa for NGO staff – F7M: Visa for short stays for employees of non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Eligibility: Employees/volunteers of NGOs based in Nigeria.
Visa for NGO Staff – F7L: Visa for short stays for employees of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) for the purpose of INGO activities. Eligibility: Employees and volunteers of INGOs with a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Nigerian government.
Diplomatic (non-accredited) visa – F2A: A short-term visa for diplomatic officials who are not accredited in Nigeria.
Visa for medical tourism – F7C: A visa issued for visiting Nigeria for the purpose of receiving medical treatment in Nigerian hospitals or clinics.
